Camping, rain, missing teeth, more rain...

We survived our annual camping trip to the Davidson River Campgrounds in the mountains of NC. This was by far, our most eventful trip.

(in case you are interested)

Here is the quick and dirty process of events/mishaps for the trip:

Thursday - After 6 hours of driving there wrong campsite! Mike signed up for one but it wasn't the one he wanted/thought he signed up for and they book up fast so we signed up in Jan and you can't change! Then, we forgot our sleeping bags...got the kids bags and all pillows, no bags for us. So off to WalMart to buy them. Emily lost her first tooth shortly after making it very loose on the corn-on-the-cob we had for dinner. It started pouring after dinner so off to bed we went.

Friday – Mike’s parents’ dog throws up right after breakfast - nice way to start the day! Afternoon rain and kids would not nap so bouncing around in the tent = angry mom and dad! Pizza dinner makes Emily throw up and me throw up a couple of hours later. More rain that night! Emily throws up again so Mike’s dad brings her to our tent (she was sleeping in their pop-up). I put her in bed with Mike and Noah and go to sleep where the kids do, and it's wet -tent is leaking. So, Mike and Noah go to his parents’ pop-up and I stay in our bed with Emily who throws up all night!

Saturday - stomach OK for Emily, getting better for me, Mike now has issues so we go on a hike and have to stop to find a bathroom for Mike b/c the 4 trips he made before we left weren't good enough! Elsie throws up in the car on the way out of the campground. Get back from hike, 2 flat tires on our trailer. Noah and I take nap and Emily goes with Mike’s mom to their pop-up and Mike and his dad go get tires fixed. Noah and I woke up but were lying down in the tent and afternoon rain comes. So, I'm up and down trying to lift the tent so the water won't pool up and bam! Tree branch breaks and falls on both ends of our tent, one hitting me in the head! Thank God Noah was laying down b/c 1 min before he was jumping on the bed right in the spot I was in. So after I scream and stop shaking I'm yelling I'm going home! Mike gets back and I said, "I fixed the problem with water piling up on the tent" . He did eventually get the tires fixed but I guess everyone in the mountains shuts down on Sat afternoons b/c only 1 place was open in the next town over! So it rained a bit more and was beautiful Sat night!

Sunday - got up, packed everything that is just damp, wet, and dirty and we drove 6 hours home to HEAT! UGH. We are still tired and slowly putting everything away and getting back to normal!

Here are some pictures...

What else do you do camping besides roast marshmellows and eat ice-cream?

And hike/walk...

and play in the mud because you just hiked to an area where you can walk behind a waterfall...

So in other news...Emily finished T-Ball and has 2 more swim lessons. We then get a break until August when she starts cheerleading for a local pop warner group. I guess the girls go around to the 4 teams and cheer a little for each during the Saturday games and they only have practice on Saturday mornings so...this will be a good exposure to see if she likes it or not. Next year, if she does like it, I'll put her in the bigger and more organized league.

We are staying busy trying to get things done around the house and trying to keep the kids and dogs from tearing it up too bad since it's only 4 months old!

Mike and Emily are planning another camping trip (Noah and mommy are staying home because they go where there are no showers). Other than that, no big plans except getting Emily ready for Kindergarten and trying to keep Noah from hurting himself too badly being a little boy!
God has really blessed us and we still feel so fortunate to have all that we do and be able to do all these fun things - even if it does make life crazy. We hope and pray that He continues to Bless all of you as He has us!
God Bless - Gretchen, Mike, Emily, Noah, Nikki, and Elsie
